Approximately 25% of all electrical accidents reported can be attributed to portable appliances in some way.  The 1989 electricity at work regulations made it a legal requirement of all suppliers , hirers and employers, where such equipment is used, reasonable and practical steps are taken to prevent danger to the users.  This can be achieved by providing a regular systematic program of inspecting, testing and maintenance.  If you fail to comply with these regulations you may be prosecuted by the Health & Safety Executive, for non-compliance.
